Leadership Skills

Members who wish to work on their leadership skills begin with the Competent Leadership manual included in the New Member Kit. Once they have completed this manual, they can progress to manuals of the Advanced Leader Programme.

Competent Leadership

The Competent Leadership manual features 10 projects:

1. Listening and Leadership
2. Critical Thinking
3. Giving Feedback
4. Time Management
5. Planning and Implementation
6. Organizing and Delegating
7. Developing Your Facilitation Skills
8. Motivating People
9. Mentoring
10. Team Building

The club members serve in various roles (e. g. Toastmaster of the Evening, Table Topic Master, Speech Evaluator, General Evaluator, Timekeeper, Grammarian, Mentor etc.) to complete the projects. An evaluator will give you feedback on each project.

When you finish all of the projects, you are eligible for Competent Leader (CL) recognition. You’ll receive a Competent Leader certificate and, if you wish, the World Headquarters will send your employer a letter about your accomplishment.

Advanced Leader Programme

After earning the CL award you can further refine and develop your leadership skills by working in the advanced leader program.

To be eligible for the recognition Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB), a member must have inter alia served at least six months as a club officer (President, Vice President Education, Vice President Membership, Vice President Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer or Sergeant at Arms, in some cases Webmaster), participated in a club officer training programme and conducted certain presentations.

To be eligible for the Advanced Leader Silver (ALS) award, a member must have inter alia served as a district leader and as a club sponsor, mentor or coach-

When you have also completed all steps of the communication programme, you become a “Distinguished Toastmaster” (DTM).
